NCAA Declares Air Peace Fleet Airworthy After Lagos Runway Incident

Regulators cleared Air Peace's aircraft as airworthy after completing a fleet-wide audit triggered by a landing incident involving one of the carrier's Boeing 737-300s at Lagos on 23 July 2019, while the Accident Investigation Bureau continued a separate probe into the cause.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority said it had completed an audit of Air Peace's fleet and found the carrier's aircraft airworthy, following a landing incident involving one of the airline's Boeing 737-300s, registration 5N-BQO, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on 23 July 2019. The regulator said the audit was carried out as a precautionary measure to reassure the travelling public while a separate investigation into the incident itself continued.

Accident Investigation Bureau Continues Probe

The Accident Investigation Bureau said it was carrying out an in-depth investigation to determine the immediate and remote causes of the incident, in line with the standards set out in Annex 13 of the Chicago Convention. The NCAA said it would await the conclusion of that separate report before drawing further conclusions, but stressed that its own fleet-wide airworthiness review had not identified any grounds to restrict Air Peace's ongoing operations.
